TeamWorx Security, a Columbia, MD cybersecurity SaaS company, wanted to boost engagement with Hive-IQ, its platform for sharing malware samples and threat intelligence across analyst teams.
What started as an internal brainstorming session turned into a full research effort: 15 structured interviews with working analysts, plus direct observation of how the platform was actually being used day to day. That research pointed to a clear pattern — analysts relied heavily on Hive-IQ’s automated sandbox tools but were slowed down by repetitive, cluttered submission steps, and a lot of the platform’s deeper functionality went unused.
The redesign combined a multi-file upload flow, file submission built directly into record creation, a reorganized records page (informed by a card-sorting exercise with analysts), and quicker access to the platform’s manual analysis tools. Each change was documented for engineering handoff and rolled out over a multi-month development cycle.
The results were substantial: an 86% reduction in steps for automated sandbox analysis, a 33% reduction for manual analysis workflows, and a 20% increase in record creation across the platform.
